We are about to finish our report on the world of Islamic carpet. Today I want to explain to you the evolution of the symbol of niche. Initially born for the type of carpet named “prayer”, the one you used to pray, was represented like a mihrab, the niche that indicates the direction of prayer in mosques, sometimes weavers put inside this mihrab a lamp to signify “the light of faith”. The characteristic of Indian carpet is to transform the niche into a window through which you can see a landscape, more articulated as possible.
